What you should know

We are here to put your mind at ease. If you’re a new client at peaceful Paws Pet Spa, you may have a few questions about how the grooming process works. We invite you to take a few moments to browse through our frequently asked questions below. Should you not find an answer to a specific question, please feel free to send us a message.

Vaccinations

For dogs, we require proof of rabies, any variation of the Distemper/Parvo vaccine (DAPP), and bordetella. For cats, we require proof of rabies and FVRCP. Vaccines must be administered by a licensed veterinarian. We require these vaccines because just like you, we have pets in our homes. Many diseases travel through the transfer of clothing. In order for us to keep your pet healthy and our pets at home healthy, vaccinations are required.

Before your pet comes to the spa we strongly recommend they have a chance to relieve themselves. They may want to have a meal beforehand, but keep in mind if your pet is nervous, they may do better on an empty stomach. Feel free to bring your pet their favorite treats from home or a special toy they love. Also, if you have a preference please feel free to bring a photo of the type of haircut you would like. We will also need a copy with proof of vaccinations. We require Rabies, DAPP, and Bordetella.

If your pet is unable to receive a vaccine, a letter from your veterinarian is required for your file. Your pet will be exempt from the required vaccination. However, for your pet’s safety and our own, your grooming appointment must be at the end of the day to ensure your pet has limited interactions with other pets. The letter from your veterinarian must give the reason for not recommending the vaccine and must not say “Client declined vaccination.”

Grooming

It’s important to have your puppy groomed as soon as possible so they can get used to and learn to love the grooming experience. We recommend they come in two weeks after their last set of vaccinations. We will not clip your puppy on their first visit to the spa as the evolution from a puppy to an adult coat is dependent on the breed and a grooming regime will be suggested to suit your puppy. During their first visit, your puppy will be introduced in a relaxed and fun way to the sights, sounds, and smells of the grooming salon ensuring that future visits are stress free.

Keeping a dog calm during the grooming process is just one of the requirements of a groomer. We understand that some dogs may have had a bad experience of grooming and now do not want or enjoy being groomed. This is one of the areas we specialize in, as through patience, massage techniques, the right equipment, and time, we are confident we can make the grooming experience enjoyable for all dogs. For those that are particularly traumatized, we recommend a grooming program consisting of a series of shorter treatments where bath and drying is undertaken in one session, nail clipping and ear cleaning at another, hair clipping at another, and so on. These should be spaced in regular intervals of one week to aid the training process. Another option we often recommend is our Brush & Blowout Sessions where we introduce your dog to brushing and a HV blowdryer on the lowest setting, to help them desensitize prior to scheduling a spa service. This allows us to see how they will react after a bath. For dogs who have not been traumatized but simply do not like the grooming experience, we will book these as a standard spa/bath to determine their requirements. It is very rare to find a dog who can not be groomed, but if we come across any serious problems during an appointment, we will discuss them with you so we can agree on a solution together.

Your pet’s nails should be trimmed monthly. You do not need to pre-book an appointment, but we do recommend calling the day before or the morning of, to reduce your waiting time and allow one of our stylists to be available.

No. We will check your pet’s anal glands but we will not express them. Groomers can only do an external expression and this can cause infection, rupturing, and many other medical problems. We highly recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian to have your pet’s anal glands expressed properly.

A pet taxi service can be provided through Creature Comforts. You must contact them to set this service up. You can contact them at 520-333-PETS. If arrangements have not been made with Creature Comforts, we will give you a courtesy call prior to your pet’s completion. Anyone who picks up their dog after more than 25 minutes of notification will be charged $1 per minute after your 25 minute notice.

All pets, regardless of age, benefit from being groomed. However, aged, disabled, and ill pets require specialty treatment during their grooming appointment. We have a special place in our hearts at Peaceful Paws Pet Spa for our aged canines and felines and our staff has been trained on the individual considerations for special handling of these pets. We are experienced in working with deaf, blind, arthritic dogs, and those with diabetes. If in any doubt, please consult your vet who will help you to decide whether there would be any adverse risk to grooming your older pet.

No they won’t as we do not use crates at our spa. Instead, each canine client is assigned an individual waiting area where they can relax.

We have a strict no drying cages policy. All pets are finished by hand by our experienced stylists. We choose this for the safety and well-being of our canine clients, and while this increases the spa time, we refuse to compromise by operating equipment and practices used by other groomers.

The length and condition of your pet’s hair will determine the frequency in which they must be groomed. Most pets do quite well on a 4-6 week schedule, while there are others that require grooming more often. During your pet’s appointment, your stylist will go over multiple options to ensure the groom you are requesting.

The only reason a double coated dog should be shaved is if there is a medical necessity. For our double coated friends, we highly suggest a De-Shed Spa treatment that will reduce their shedding by 80% in the first week. Please see our SERVICES page for more information.

Billing

Pricing is based on breed, weight, hair length, the condition of their skin, their temperament, age and grooming history. We will give an exact cost when we check your pet in for services. However, please use the prices listed on our services page as guide pricing.

Because we book based on the need of your pets, cancellations can leave an empty block in the schedule that could have otherwise been used by another customer. If you do not feel comfortable providing your credit card information over the phone, you can come to the salon to do it in person. We require this action to be complete 3 days prior to your appointment or your appointment will not be held.

We offer a 10% discount to all of our military (active and retired), teachers, nurses, border patrol, and local police officers. We also offer a 25% discount to anyone who has recently adopted a pet within 60 days from our local shelter or a rescue. Proof of adoption records required. Adoption must have taken place within 60 days of scheduling your spa appointment.

As your pet loves you very much they will wiggle and move around trying to get close to you which is not safe while we are grooming. It is best to drop off your pet at their scheduled appointment time and return when their services are completed. If you intend to do shopping at the mall, we ask that you do your best for your pet to not see you until they are ready.

If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with the treatment received, please advise within 2 business days so we can do our best to rectify it. Pet parents’ satisfaction is important to us.

We ask that any salon cancellations are made at least 24 business hours in advance. Out of respect for other clients, as well as our staff’s time, cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will be charged 50% of the expected appointment fee. Same day cancellations and No Call / No Shows shall be charged 100% of the expected appointment fee. Customers will receive these charges in an invoice to their email on file. After 3 infractions, you will be asked to find another grooming service better suited to your schedule.

We accept cash, CashApp, Zelle, Google Pay, Apple Pay, and all major credit cards. Please note, there is a 3.5% convenience fee when paying with a credit card.

Common Questions

Expectations prior to booking

Prior to booking, you should verify your pet has all of the vaccinations to visit Peaceful Paw Pet Spa. Showing up to your appointment without the required documents will forfeit your appointment and it will be considered a same-day cancellation and the treatment service will have to be paid in full.

Vaccination Policy

All dogs must be current on Rabies, Bordetella, and any variance of DAPP (Distemper/Parvo). Clients must also submit accurate and recent copies of vaccination records for our file. All cats must be current on Rabies and FVRCP (Feline upper-respiratory). All vaccinations MUST BE administered by a veterinarian.

Booking

Appointments can be booked in person, over the phone, and online. If you request an appointment online, it is not guaranteed until you receive the appointment confirmation. Please allow up to 24 hours for appointment confirmations when booking online. 

Cancellations and fees

Because we book based on the needs of your pet(s) and cancellations can leave an empty block in the schedule that could have otherwise been used by another customer, we ask that any salon cancellations are made AT LEAST 24 BUSINESS HOURS in advance. Out of respect for other customers, as well as our grooming staff’s time, cancellations with less than 24 business hours notice will be charged 50% of the expected grooming fee. Same day cancellations and no call/no shows shall be charged 100% of the expected grooming fee. After 3 infractions, you will be asked to find another grooming service better suited to your schedule.

Pets in heat

We groom animals who are intact. To prevent any accidental pregnancies, we will NOT groom an animal in heat.

Expectations upon arrival

If you are a new client, please arrive 10 minutes early to your scheduled appointment so your stylist will be able to go over your expectations prior to drop off. 

Late dropoff

Because we book according to your pet’s needs, any drop off more than 15 minutes after your scheduled appointment will have to be rescheduled and will be considered a same day cancellation and you will be charged 100% of the service fee..

Late pickup

Because we book based on the needs of your pet(s), it is crucial that pets are picked up promptly. We will do our best to inform you of when to expect your pet(s) to be ready. Anyone who picks up their pet(s) after more than 25 minutes of notification will be charged an additional fee of $1 per minute after the 25-minute notice. For pet transportation, please click HERE for Creature Comforts.

Pet de-mat

Dogs with severely matted coats require extra attention. Peaceful Paws Pet Spa will not cause serious or undue stress to pets by de-matting.  Mats can be difficult to remove and may require the pet to be shaved.  Removing a heavily matted coat can cause nicks, cuts, or abrasions. Heavy matting can also trap moisture and urine near the pet’s skin, allowing mold, fungus or bacteria to grow, and or revealing skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming process.  After-effects of the mat removal can include itchiness, redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions, and failure of hair to regrow.  In some cases, pets may also exhibit brief behavioral changes. I hereby release Peaceful Paws Pet Spa from any liability associated with any and all injuries or medical problems that may be uncovered and or occur during the stripping and de-matting process. Should my pet need veterinarian care after or during the process of de-matting, I agree to pay any and all veterinarian fees.

Your pet is important to us

Because we care about your pet’s safety, we want to assure you that every precaution will be taken to provide a safe and stress-free grooming experience for your pet. Due to the intimate nature of the grooming process, or a pet’s tolerance level for stress, strangers, or handling, some pets can become anxious or reactive during the grooming service. 

If we determine that continuing the grooming service would present a threat to your dog’s emotional or physical health, and/or the safety of the groomer completing the service, we will discontinue the service and contact you immediately. 

We will take every precaution necessary to complete the grooming service safely and humanely including the proper use of common industry safety equipment such as grooming loops, muzzles, and restraints.
